As of July 1, 2015, the fine for uninsured drivers caught driving without insurance in Tennessee increased from $100 to $300. From January 1, 2016 and onwards, the police can have your car towed immediately if proof of valid insurance is not produced. Before January 1, 2017, the state of Tennessee will be implementing a new online insurance verification program. This new program will be able to locate drivers who do not have valid insurance by reviewing digital vehicle registration records. Vehicles identified as having uninsured owners will not be eligible for registration renewal.
